Frost on the rooftops
Birds flitting by
Smoke from Bernice's chimney
Ascending to the sky

The fish plant now dormant
Another season gone
Boats lying on the slipway
Awaiting springtime's call

The hills across the harbour
Mirrored in the sea
If only there was someone
To view the scene with me

Trees of every colour
Red, green, gold, and more
The shed across the water
Attuned to the decor

The house across the meadow
Vacant now and still
Once friends and neighbours gathered there
And children played at will

Cars scurrying by
Ever in a rush
The last roses of summer
A-bloom on the bush
