Writer Dennis Flynn recently got the chance to pore over and photograph a curious collection of old postcards sent to Newfoundland's Bonavista Peninsula during the early 1900s. Many of the cards bear handwritten messages with romantic overtones, as well as quirky, often flirtatious, illustrations. The recipient of most of the cards was a woman named Blanche (or Blanch) Brown.

Now, all these years later we’re left wondering, who was this woman and her suitor - and did their romance endure? It’s a mystery more than 100 years in the making. See the full story in the February issue of Downhome.
