My name is Jennifer Parsons and I am a Newfoundlander living in Pictou, Nova Scotia. On June 30th 2012, my Anglican church youth group and I set foot on a plane with a destination of San Juan, Puerto Rico. You might ask yourself why a group of teenaged Nova Scotian Christians would travel to Puerto Rico for a whole week. Well, we did it as a mission trip, organized through an organization called Adventures in Missions. This organization is designed to help Christian participants find mission trips to serve on.
While we were there, we were privileged to serve the local children through a week-long Vacation Bible school, a sports camp, and a service project, which involved cleaning up the local beach.
We stayed at a rental home in Luquillo, (which is just outside the capital, San Juan) and all week while we worked, we sweltered in the hot Caribbean sun desperately missing the cool Atlantic Canadian weather.
Though the view of palm trees and bright blue sky was very beautiful I was reminded of home's scenery by reading my Downhome magazine during my free time.
I am enclosing some photos of my group taken in Puerto Rico and you will notice that in one of them I am proudly displaying my Downhome magazine. This magazine truly does travel the world!

Downhome Went on a Cruise With Us
This is one of the places we went ashore from our cruise ship Freedom of the Seas, Trunk Bay, St. John, the Virgin Islands. My son Ron, his girlfriend Sheila, her mom Ann and me with the Downhome. Thanks to my son it was the trip of a lifetime for me...fantastic cruise.

It is accompanied by many other flags and names from around the world, hopefully in perpetuity.
Forgive the printing. A very stretchy flag was hard to write on. This photo was taken March 16, 2013 at an altitude of 5164 m at the rather cold place named Gorak Shep. ... Hide full submission

We had an awesome trip. One of the couples, Carter and Leah, brought with them a Newfoundland flag, and every morning we would hang the flag either at the beach or pool and that would be our spot for the day. We affectionately termed it the "Newfoundland Embassy." This picture shows the embassy. The couple on top of the rock, Corey and Gizelle, holding the Downhome magazine are the couple that got married while we were there. Just thought you could print this as a memory of our trip. ... Cuba vacation is a place to go. We had several excursions such as sky diving, a tour guide to Habana in a 1956 Chevrolet, a jeep tour. Also a tour throughout Veradero, Cuba. Loved every second. As you can see, Downhome Magazine's April 2013 issue was there as well.
