In a few moments, the natural world that had been on the edge of my consiousness came alive. The deeply earthy scent of the streambank. The murmur of wind rustling the leaves in the trees. A flutter of grey jay wings. The subtle rustle of the grass at my feet.
I've paddled, hiked and explored all over Western Newfoundland in every season. I know how peaceful, even soul-soothing, a day in the great outdoors can be. Yet even I as a photographer for many many years had forgotton something important: Stop. Be Still. Look and Listen.
In today's busy world we sometimes forget to slow down and celebrate the wonders of nature that once came to us so easily as children. With her beautiful landscapes and amazing experiences, Newfoundland and Labrador is the perfect place to remember.

Downhome Went on a Cruise With Us
This is one of the places we went ashore from our cruise ship Freedom of the Seas, Trunk Bay, St. John, the Virgin Islands. My son Ron, his girlfriend Sheila, her mom Ann and me with the Downhome. Thanks to my son it was the trip of a lifetime for me...fantastic cruise.

We had an awesome trip. One of the couples, Carter and Leah, brought with them a Newfoundland flag, and every morning we would hang the flag either at the beach or pool and that would be our spot for the day. We affectionately termed it the "Newfoundland Embassy." This picture shows the embassy. Cuba vacation is a place to go. We had several excursions such as sky diving, a tour guide to Habana in a 1956 Chevrolet, a jeep tour. Also a tour throughout Veradero, Cuba. Loved every second. As you can see, Downhome Magazine's April 2013 issue was there as well.
