Explore the beauty of Mother Nature’s amusement park

Part of Newfoundland and Labrador’s charm is its natural, unspoiled beauty. Our rivers, ponds and bays provide us with fun fishing expeditions, while our vast wilderness is a hiker’s dream. Even our long winters provide endless hours of fun spent sliding, snowmobiling, skating, snowshoeing and much more. Have a look through these outdoor activity shots, to see how our readers enjoy down-home living, outside.

The photo shows a sunfish observed by Jim Hull on Badger Bay, NL on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010. The weight was estimated in excess of 1,300 lbs. This is a rare sighting for this type of fish in this area. Fully grown, the species can weight up to 4,800 lbs.

  Wreckhouse
Known as the windiest place in Newfoundland, the Wreckhouse area on the island’s southwest corner produces gale-force winds so intense, they have blown trains off their tracks. The Wreckhouse inspires awe with both its beauty and its punch. Wreckhouse wine, made from hand-picked, locally grown partridgeberries, offers the tantalizing taste of apple with the special “zip” of the wild partridgeberry. It’s a combination that’ll blow you away.
