A great friend of the family took myself and my husband out for an hour on the water. It wasn't going so well at first, my husband and I could never hook one, so the next stop, "some special fishing ground," our friend let me put my jig down first. I pulled up three arm's length and all of a sudden the first jig I took - I had him on. Let's just say I had a few squeels for myself pulling him in, and I have bragging rights because my husband never caught one, lol. I let him hold the fish for the pic just to make him feel good!! All in all, 'twas a good day on the water! ... Hide full submission

It was my first time using this rod and the reel had 4-lb test line on it. We went to Cochenour dock for a BBQ and to try the fishing off the dock. We set up our chairs on the dock and started fishing. It was hot and nothing was biting. After about 30 minutes I got a snag and had to cut my line. I attached a new spinner on my line and by that time supper was ready so I cast my line out and let it sit while I enjoyed my T-bone steak. I am halfway through my steak when my rod does this crazy dip and jerk, so my fiance graabbed my plate and started reeling this fish in. It was putting up quite a fight. I knew this fish was big but had no idea! As it got closer to the dock I knew I would not be able to pull this fish the 3-4 foot difference between the top of the dock and the water so I let it play and started walking to the end where there was a boat launch and a shallow grade into the water. After about 20 minutes I was able to get this fish into shallow water where I could grab it. When I pulled the fish out not only did it have my line in its mouth, it had the previous line from the snag I thought I had. So my fiance took the picture and I carefully removed both hooks and set it free. ... Hide full submission
Arrived in Newfoundland during Hurricane Igor with granddaughter Katie. When the fishing season opened, a friend Sterling King took us out. Katie proved to be an excellent fisher-girl. After that she wouldn't do anything else.
