Judith Simms (Dawe) - Fishing in 1929
In 1929, my parents Ruth and Alfred Simms returned to St. Anthony to build a house for my grandparents (Drusilla and Reuben Simms). My mom took this photo of my dad and me and a codfish caught off the coast of St. Anthony when I was three. I am now 85.
Taken Aug. 1, 2011, near Tizzard's Harbour, Notre Dame Bay, N.L. In photo: Weston Boyd, Stephenville, N.L., and grandson P.J. Downey, Fort McMurray, A.B. Photo taken by Gerald Boyd.

I had heard that the rainbow trout had gotten loose from their cages down here, so I figured I would give it a try. Me and my friend Barbara got ready and went early at 7 a.m. We were there about twp hours and never caught a thing, I said, "There is nothing here, I am not even getting a bite." Then the tide started coming in. Well, it bit my hook and took off. The real was going crazy. I tried to stop it and bruised my thumb trying to catch it, but I did. I was about 10 to 15 minutes trying to get this great fish in. When it came in with the help of Barbara it was huge, the biggest one ever I caught in my life. I use a green floater hook with some shrimp on it. I had caught five by the time the afternoon rolled in. Wow, what a day! I will never forget this beautiful day. ... Hide full submission
