I was a Roughneck on the Zapata Ugland the night the Ocean Ranger went down. One minute the Ocean Ranger was on our horizon and the next it was gone. The waves were high. Supply boats were lost between the waves. The Sedco 706 also drilling that evening took a real beating. There were two drill crews working on our Rig that evening. Our crew was scheduled off tower at midnight but was very caught up throughout the evening with the events taking place around us. Helicopters refueling on our rig non-stop. Shown in the picture are the following: Back row left to right are: Tyrone Power, Eric Ingram, William "Billy" Williams, Clyde Collins, Doug, Morgan, Howard Soper, Albert Dier. Front row left to right: Jack Symne, William "Billy the welder" Clarke, Tom "Texas Tom" DeShazor, Robert Kelly, Chris McManemin, James Brown. Not shown are Richard Powell, Mike B., Robert Green. If anyone has a picture of the other Drill Crew out on the Ugland that evening please email me or post it on Downhome Magazine. As for Rising Tide Theatre...Break a Leg.
