Cape Spear was my Mother-in-law Joan Cantwell's home. It is part of Newfoundland's history and our family heritage. It brings family back to Newfoundland and many tourists to the area. Lighthouses are true maritime museums not to be forgotten. Many lives were saved because of them and many Canadians today are proud that they remain so we can remember and honour those dedicated families who ran them.

Save the lighthouses and get rid of the Government.
Tommy writes:
All the lighthouses across Canada (all the way to the BC coast, and also along the Great Lakes) should FOREVER be saved as "heritage properties" either by the Crown or (better yet) the Provinces, so thay can be protected regardless of which flag flies over them. (This - of course - would also include those along the Gaspe and/or St. Lawrence in Quebec).

Please leave them as our heritage, we've lost so many grain elevators that was a part of our heritage in the praries. I miss them, they were a big part of my past.

Did they get rid of the Colosseum in Athens? Did they get rid of the pyramids in Egypt? Surplus!!! They are our heritage. Save them.
