I'm looking for information about a "hippy commune" or colony on Exploit's Island in Notre Dame Bay in the early 1960s. Any thoughts?

I was at a party one time in Vancouver (I think) and I happened to mention that I grew up in Lewisporte. A woman somewhat older than me suddenly spoke up and said she knew Lewisporte and "did I remember the hippy commune down in Exploits?" She claimed with a smile that she had been one of the hippies. I said that I probably saw her back then because the hippies used to come into town and we small boys would run down to the local grocery store to see and wonder at their "odd" appearances. The memory of one of these hippy women is clear in my mind...her smile. In any case, does anyone know specifically how their "commune" was arranged or set up? Did they live in a single house or a number of houses or did they live in houses at all? Was it just a summer retreat? When was it and how long did it exist? Is there a member, perhaps, who consults these pages or a Newfoundlander who visited them?

P.S. I think there ought to be a Question Guideline called "History".
