Michelle Hatch, marketing coordinator for Downhome magazine, recently presented a cheque for $10,800 to the Lions Club of Newfoundland and Labrador. The money was raised through Downhome Publishing Inc.'s fundraising program, whereby groups sell magazine subscriptions to earn money for their cause. For each subscription sold, Downhome donates $15 of the sale. The Lions sold more than 700 magazine subscriptions from June to October last year, the largest number of subscriptions ever sold during one drive of the fundraiser program.
The money raised from subscription sales will benefit the Lion Max Simms Memorial Camp, a fully accessible facility for people with special needs, located on 25 acres of land on the Exploits River near Bishop's Falls.
"I'd recommend this program to any organization," says Lion Gerald Hutchings, who sits on the Board of Directors for the camp. He says the money will be put aside to support the future of the facility.
