Last year Hurricane Florence swept the south coast of Newfoundland, destroying the home of my brother and sister-in-law, Cody and Elizabeth Durnford, in Francois. Not long after, their three-year-old son, Noah, was at my place playing on the computer. He looked out the window that faces the spot where his house used to be. I saw him looking but didn't really pay much attention until he said "Uncle Dar! Where is my house?" I reminded him that the windstorm had taken it. Perhaps thinking of the things we often do to prepare for when a storm is coming, he replied, "Maybe we should have put it in the basement."
