On the evening of Monday, November 20, 2017, a group of travellers heading to Newfoundland and Labrador were delayed at Pearson International Airport. While they were stuck at the gate, videos of how they passed the time travelled around, and around, the world.
By the time they landed in St. John's, Sheldon Thornhill (accordion), Sean Sullivan (guitar) and 9-year-old Liam Corrigan (singer) were Internet sensations, thanks to videos posted to Facebook by fellow traveller Michelle Sacrey Philpott. Their impromptu kitchen party lifted the spirits of not only those around them in the airport, but also people around the world watching the videos on Facebook and twitter.
The entertainers have since been interviewed by TV and radio stations in Ontario and at home. CBC Newfoundland and Labrador's facebook post on it has been viewed over a hundred thousand times, and their story has gone viral. Here is one of Michelle's videos, followed by some of the reaction on social media. (video is best viewed on Chrome browser)
