We were very proud to welcome aboard the Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador, His Honour the Honourable John. C. Crosbie last week. He and Her Honour Jane Crosbie were hosting Canada's Lieutenant Governors so we were thrilled that whale watching was on their short list of activities. Laughingly he quipped to me, "I see the women are taking over everything these days!"

Crosbie went on to regale us with stories of his whaling days out of White Bay. From whale hunting to whale watching we were happy to share his pleasure in observing the seabirds at the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve and the feeding humpback whales. Sitting beside the Honourable John Crosbie, is The Honourable Ann Meekitjuk Hanson, Commissioner of Nunavut.

About the Skipper...
Satisfying her keen interest in natural history, Fraser Carpenter has spent most of her adult life outdoors or on the water. She has run tour boats and sailing charter boats - and even built a sailing boat and spent 13 years sailing around the world, hiking, climbing and photographing nature. Fraser has spent four summers sailing and hiking in the arctic and two years in sub antarctica working as a field scientist. In the summer time she skippers a passenger boat for O'Brien's Whale and Bird Tours in Bay Bulls, Newfoundland.
